General Miles left for Washington by train from Chicago after denying a Chicago report that he had been ordered to Washington. Secretary Root said Miles was not summoned, and the general was en route from Fort Riley to West Point for the centennial celebration. Great Falls June 6 Percy De Wolfe denied a new trial by Judge Leslie in district court. He had been sentenced last year to 10 years for horse stealing. At verdict time he attempted cyanide poisoning but doctors and a stomach pump saved him.
The jury in a United States court at Helena weighing the fate of Frank Whitsett of Stevensville for alleged unlawful timber cutting from the public domain in the Missoula land district remained out at 10 o clock Saturday morning. The verdict was sent to the jury shortly before 3 pm yesterday afternoon.
Kalispell June 6 an information filed in district court charges M T Collins with manslaughter for killing Fred Faught during an May 16 altercation in Jennings Faught a bartender was shot in the leg and Collins fled then captured in Spokane and jailed here
Special Dispatch reports in Big Timber that Harvey Clouse’s two and a half year old daughter drowned yesterday afternoon in the large irrigation ditch beside the house in Boulder river country. The child wandered near the doorway and ten minutes later the mother found the body ten feet from the house. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
In Wilkes Barre with the Wyoming region quiet after last nights shooting, coal and iron police desert in large numbers. Four officers face a preliminary hearing for the shooting, while unions appoint guard committees to keep children away from collieries amid ongoing strike tensions.

Ed Smith, a sheriff’s posse member, says search efforts spread from Aberdeen to Ocosta, Westport, Bruceport, and South Bend as authorities pursue by boat and on land.
News from Champanico via the Palena reports Retalbulen at the foot of Mt Tacona buried in lava ash and stones. Estimated death toll near 1000 with Champanico and Tapachulo affected. Mt Tacona restless since April 18 earthquake that destroyed Quezaltenango. Santa Maria also active.

Segur general agent of the Burlington railway who was brought home from Cody Wyoming yesterday suffering from a stroke that affects his entire left side was somewhat improved today He rested well last night and ate a hearty dinner He complains of pains in the left side of his face and the toes of his left foot which is taken as an indication that circulation is being restored to the left side.
