Hannah Costello seeks divorce in district court claiming continual abuse by W F Costello since 1897. She alleges verbal assaults and a recent beating, fears for her safety, and asks for custody of two children and protection against disposal of at home assets at 7 Colorado Street. He is an engineer at Emma mine earning $4 a day.
A northern Pacific route segment suffered a washout after a cloudburst, creating dangerous travel conditions. crews work to clear debris and restore service as schedules are disrupted and repairs proceed through the day.
Damage from a cloudburst halted Northern Pacific trains from Saturday to yesterday near Terry east of Miles City. Two eastbound trains reached Butte last night. Next Sunday a Sunday excursion runs Butte to Alder on the Ruby Valley branch, leaving Butte at 9:20 and returning from Alder at 6:30. Fares: From Butte to Pipestone 1.00, to Whitehall and Twin Bridges 1.50, to Alder 2.00.

Edward Berthemet sued to recover possession of several lots on the Atlantic Lode and $1,000 damages from each defendant. Edward Matthews John Hoolihan John Fitzgerald and Jeremiah Murphy filed separate answers claiming adverse possession and the statute of limitations. Matthews Murphy and Hoolihan say they and their predecessors have held the property for 18 years with improvements. Fitzgerald claims 1 year of possession.
Dan Yancey filed a suit against H. M. Hall to quiet title to a San E property at Copper street and Ex elsior avenue lot 2 block 3 Lawyer and Kemper addition. Yancey purchased the property but Hall later obtained a deed. The original owners were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Daly.
The Minneapolis Times reports James J. Hill will resign as president of the Great Northern by July 1 and devote time to the merger company. His son Louis W. Hill is named successor, with James N. Hill remaining vp in charge of operation as Louis prepares for the role. Louis is noted for traffic expertise and enjoys local popularity.
The funeral for Martin Turk of Meaderville was largely attended from Sacred Heart church. Turk, who came from Austria 29 years ago, died after illness and surgery at Murray Freund's hospital. He leaves a wife and four children and was a member of the Mill and Smeltermen's union. Interment was at Catholic cemetery.
Judge Knowles convened the U S court in Butte to hear motions on bankruptcy matters. A decree favored Helvetia Milk Condensing against Davidson Grocery over brand ownership. Blockley v Higgins default set aside. final discharge hearing for William J Green scheduled June 17 at Helena. Nixon discharged from bankruptcy. Binnard and Rogers moved to Owsley block.
The Northern Pacific offers round trip tickets for Knights of Pythias meeting travelers from Butte to San Francisco on Aug 4 to 9 for 50 dollars with stopovers allowed and return by Sept 25, 1902. It also promotes Chamberlain's Pain Balm for rheumatism and back sprains, with user testimonials, and urges keeping Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhea Remedy on hand, listing vendors in Butte.
Deer Lodge June 2 A warm campaign in Powell county forms as the democratic county central committee is organized at the courthouse by a majority lineup of locals. Thomas Elliott named chairman Edward Scharnikow secretary. adjournment set for a later date to fix the county convention.

Bidding ran high for the first ten seats and boxes for the Over land minstrel show next Thursday. First box sold for 57 dollars, second for 47, with other prices listed. Tickets go on sale at Sutton's Broadway box office. The amateur performance promises new songs jokes and costumes, led by Director John Howard with 15 top Musicians and a sunflower dance featuring Maudie Werrick as the flower fairy. Great Northern Railway offers Saturday and Sunday trips to Basin Boulder and Alhambra with round trips priced at 1.50 1.50 and 2.30 respectively. Special Basin Boulder tickets Sunday only return 1.00. Tickets at 41 North Main Street and depot.
