Clark Mines Change Ownership to Anaconda Copper

The Anaconda Copper Mining company has taken possession of the Clark copper mines in the Butte district, including the Original and Stewart groups. Ownership shifted just after midnight May 31, with miners starting under new management last night. Ore will be shipped to the Washoe smelter at Anaconda, while the Butte reduction works will close after cleaning up its on hand ore in three weeks to a month. The concentrating department remains leased to W. A. Clark. New operations will expand to the Stewart and Parrot mines, with plans to connect Original and Gagnon shafts and to use a future Gagnon vertical shaft. Power from Great Falls will reach the Anaconda mines within 30 days, enabling full production at Washoe and regional smelters. The region’s copper output remains strong, with several smelters and mines contributing to a high production pace.
