Boxeman July 7 A 10 year old boy Willie McMullen shot himself through the heart while playing with a revolver found in a nearby house. His 5 year old brother alerted the central station as parents were away. A neighbor and a physician were summoned but the boy died instantly.
Washington July 27 information sought on whether the captain of the American steamer Leelanaw was asked to deliver contraband from his cargo and whether he would do so the United States government awaits details of his representations to Germany after the vessel was destroyed by a German submarine the 1828 Prussian American treaty limits detention of vessels that surrender contraband if proven the United States will file a note alleging treaty violation.

New York July 27 Charles Becker the former police lieutenant twice convicted of instigating the murder of Herman Rosenthal and sentenced to die in the electric chair at Sing Sing Friday morning faced possible further respite. He met tonight with Supreme Court Justice Ford whose decision was expected Thursday morning. Becker in his Sing Sing cell prepared another statement protesting innocence designed for release if the execution occurred.
