Maj. Bruce R. Campbell rejects a charge by Mrs. Bergdoll and describes a rapid money-making claim as a frightful injustice. He argues that certain testimony was permitted while he was not present and defends his absence from proceedings.
Maj Bruce R Campbell testified before a House committee that none of the $6500 placed with a Wall Street broker came from the Bergdoll family. He said the funds originated as a prewar investment of $500 by Milton Young that grew to $6000 by 1917 and was later linked to a hidden sum his wife had hidden. He blurted out it was his father, William R Campbell, prompting the panel to summon him for corroboration.
Helena July 22 Work will begin immediately on a new building program at the University at Missoula after the state board of land commissioners approved spending 100000 in education bonds voted by the people last fall. The board accepted a Spokane bond house with help from four banks and the Missoula Mercantile Company.
Barnes wins the open national championship as President Harding presents him with the golf trophy on the green in front of Columbia's club house.
James M. Barnes of Pelham Bay Country Club captured the open national golf championship at Columbia Club after 72 holes on a sunny two day session. Walter Hagen finished nine strokes back in second place with 279 while Red Meltod of the local course was third at 281. Chick Evans led the amateurs with 302 finishing fourth overall. Bobby Jones tied with Alex Smith and Kimmett French at 308, among the professionals and amateurs. George Duncan, last year’s English Open winner, was among the few foreign entrants to finish well.
Seventy five editors of Montana newspapers and their wives attend the annual Montana State Press association convention at Whitefish. Sessions were at Flathead Lake today and will be in Glacier National Park tomorrow and Sunday.
July 22 Tulsa authorities reported former police chief John A Gustafson found guilty by a jury of failing to take precautions for public safety during the recent race riots and of conspiracy to aid automobile thieves. The verdict ends a turbulent inquiry into city security and corrupt acts.
The body of Eileen Connor of Seattle was found near Selby North Dakota after No. 15 passenger train from Hast to Seattle, with baggage and a bag tag showing Billie Connor 522 Minor Avenue North Seattle. Passengers reported the woman acted strangely and appeared stressed before vanishing from the train shortly before Mobridge arrival. Local authorities held her belongings and notified relatives.
London reports focus on two pivotal points for Irish talks. Ulster premier Sir James Craig and Eamonn de Valera may meet in Ireland, and de Valera's acceptance of a home rule amendment hinges on party aims. Murray estate and the state aims to protect its inheritance tax rights. Springfield July 22. Governor Small, under indictment for embezzlement and conspiracy to defraud the state, sat at the head of the se government and defied arrest. He appeared in court with friends of the court offering opinions but no motions. Judge Smith said no ruling would be made and nothing would be done before next Tuesday.
Mary Haldorn Murray widow of James A. Murray has filed an objection to the Montana appointment of Public Administrator Madge Brogan Dugan as administratrix. The objection, filed by Kremer Sanders Kremer, contends the will was filed in California and California law governs probate. Montana should not act until California probate is resolved. The case, with valuation stated at 5.25 million dollars by Mrs. Dugan, will be heard before Judge Lynch at 10 o'clock.
In Scranton Pa on July 22 a Tead of the Delaware Western line wreck near Glenburn Coolbaugh left one dead and more than 20 injured. Most seriously hurt was fireman Jacob Helchman from Gouldsboro Pa. mail clerks near Snyder Stroudsboro and Binghamton were crushed or bruised.
Helena July 22 After five days of traffic police on extra city highways the county officials recalled them upon discovering the legislature had amended the act to a 30 mile an hour limit and replaced it with a reasonable speech rule. A number of arrests were made and several motorists fined in ignorance of the amendment.
Deputy County Attorney announces information will be presented in district court this morning. Principal Powers of Earth to convene on Armistice Day to discuss everlasting peace.
Information charging Police officer William Taylor with the murder of E A Brown will be filed in district court today as part of a law and motion calendar. Brown died after a car ride on Harrison avenue near noon Thursday. Coroner’s investigation and a post mortem are planned as the case unfolds. Burial will be at Mount Moriah with Masonic rites.
Miss Mildred Dickinson daughter of El. Dickinson of Helena married TH. P. Shelley Republican national committeeman for Montana in a quiet ceremony at the First Christian church Vancouver Washington. The couple arrived in Helena earlier this month.

President to submit to Congress next Tuesday under the transportation act authority. Estimates place total claims from $500 million to $1.25 billion, with earlier settlement around forty percent.
