Orge Perris shoots Olive Su Ivian and then kills himself in a fatal crime ending a long romance. Authorities investigated the shock event and the couple’s troubled history as neighbors recalled their years together and the sudden tragedy.
On a rural road seven miles southwest of Butte near Divide a well known resident George Peris shot and killed Olive Sullivan known as Mrs Olive Peris and then killed himself with a two gun. A companion theory suggests she posed as his wife and a hooting woman witnessed the scene. Walter Foster saw the commotion and brought Mrs Sullivan to Murray hospital. The sheriff and coroner retrieved Peris’s body and his auto bore three bullet holes and three undischarged cartridges. Mrs Sullivan was shot twice in the throat and left tongue. The case reveals a long troubled story with a distraught young wife of two years who is heartbroken by the loss.

Miss Eleanor Robertson 14? killed, Dr F McCrimmon fatally hurt in a morning collision between a sidecar motorcycle and an automobile near the Bungalow and Five Mile. Rollo McDonald, the sole survivor, described a high speed crash. Miss Robertson died en route to Murray hospital, while Dr McCrimmon remained unconscious with a fractured skull.
Leo M. Frank, recently commuted to life in Georgia, was attacked in the state prison dormitory by fellow inmate William Green. Frank’s jugular vein was cut, doctors worked to stop bleeding as guards lit the dorm and two imprisoned surgeons aided. Green reportedly expressed remorse and claimed he acted alone, but Frank’s condition remained critical.
London reports renewed German actions in Lorraine with an early morning attack on French trenches in the forest of Parroy, said to be repulsed. The French war office notes German defeat in the Vosges while on the western front artillery exchanges continue. No decisive action yet in major eastern battles around Riga and Warsaw as von Sindenburg and von Mackensen coordinate moves.

Cunard liner Orduna bound from Liverpool to New York carrying 227 passengers was torpedoed by a German submarine twenty miles from the graveyard of the Lusitania off Old Head of Kinsale. The ship escaped, firing at the pursuer, and reached Queenstown with no warning given. Passengers reported a sailing vessel with two American flags prior to the attack, and American protest plans were discussed by William C. Thompson.
A pasteboard box addressed to Governor W. S. Hammond containing a fuse tied to a cartridge was opened in the Capitol. Secretaries say the device would have gone to the governor if he had been in town. Police seized the infernal device and detectives took charge. Also note reports of flood danger passing and a not guilty verdict in the April 2 murder case of Wi Jam Purdy.
London July 17 Fifty thousand women paraded along Victoria embankment to offer service to the nation. Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst and Sir David Lloyd George spoke as banners flew and the crowd chanted, with cries that women should work where men do. The minister urged mobilizing all willing to aid victory and quoted Russia as a future ally in Europe. The scene reflected national resolve and hope for Europe’s freedom.
