Detroit July 12 Friends of Debs push for a presidential pardon for Eugene V Debs socialist party nominee who is jailed on charges of violating laws. The socialist national committee plans a personal appeal to President Wilson within two weeks and to Secretary Tumulty, aiming to secure action on Debs release. The regional committee continues gathering support and will conclude the effort tomorrow.

Two cashier drafts were tampered with to raise amounts from 842 to 900 and 9 to 842, fooling Butte banks. The scheme involved J Manning posing as partners in a pool hall business to obtain quick payment from Charles I. The victim attorneys collected a commission, but the drafts were inflated for collection and later proved fraudulent. Police note it as a new ruse and warn other cities.

Ethileford, 13, of Butte Montana and Cuthbert, 21, were jailed on theft charges after allegedly obtaining a car with a forged check. R. Ritchie, the plaintiff, said Gibford posing as Mrs Maggie Fox seized the auto from him via a Wallace Idaho bank check. The vehicle was recovered and police suspect a forgery ring used Gibford.

Butte Council Approves New Bond Issue of 600000

Butte city council at a special meeting authorized bonds totaling 600000 to retire warrants. The issue raises total municipal bonded indebtedness to 1290000 with two prior issues of 690000 maturing in 1921. Bonds pay 8 percent interest semiannually over 20 years in denominations 100 500 and 1000.
