Automobile Association of Montana Organized with New Officers

The Montana Automobile Association was perfected today with a four county representation and an organized board. E W Miles of Livingston named president. Dr Brazier of Helena engaged as secretary to develop the organization and publish a magazine. A 15 member board of directors includes J A Harader of Bozeman and C W Reeder of Glasgow among others.

Miner of Butte Falls Dead on Brooklyn Pier

Samuel Bukvich a miner from Butte died of typhus on a Brooklyn pier as he prepared to sail for Austria aboard the President Wilson. He collapsed carrying his baggage, aged 41, after a long health decline following a 100 foot chute accident that broke his back years earlier. He had lived in Butte 12 years and left July 1 for New York intending to sail for Austria. Announcements reached his cousin James Bukvich yesterday.

Bandits Rob Bank In Chicago Chase and Escape

Six bandits rob the State Bank of Clearing of 15000 dollars in Chicago. Three are captured two hours later after a 20 mile pursuit by shotgun squads. The robbers toss bundles of money to children near La mon t, Illinois, delaying police. The gang scatters when their car is stopped.

Disastrous Fire Destroys Seattle Wharf and Warehouse

A blaze on Seattle south water front caused an estimated 300000 in damage to a 1100 foot wharf and adjacent warehouse. Fireboats and 300 sailors from the Idaho aided firefighters for hours to prevent spread to oil tanks and a warehouse with 50000 cases of salmon. Insurance officials say losses are covered.

Preliminary survey shows no degrades in Silver Bow valuations

Preliminary indications are that the actual valuation of assessable property in Silver Bow county has not decreased. The rolls will be turned over to the Clerk and Recorder for extension on Monday. A force of 12 deputies was approved by county commissioners for the work. The 1920 county total assessed valuation was $117,585,170 with autos taxed at $2,079,040. Within the city the assessed value was $11,640,000 and Walkerville was $1,101,100. The county taxable value reached $36,700,000.

Inspection Tour Arrives With Officials In Butte

Howard Elliott of Northern Pacific arrived in Butte aboard a special train to tour Montana crop conditions. He praised Montana’s fields from the route, noted good conditions in Minnesota and North Dakota, and forecast Montana to be among first to rebound when conditions improve. He said NP lands in the state have not yet been developed enough to forecast final outcomes.

July 8 conference of state university executives opened at the state capitol. Recommendations on the program for the school year will be prepared for presentation to the state board of education meeting. The board will on Monday select a president to succeed CH Clapp, who becomes president of the university after DF Sisson resigned.

De Valera Calls For Irish Truce And Peace Talks

George Huffaker Killed in Wreck in Montana

Helena bureau AP reports Lewis and Clark County Sheriff George W. Huffaker died instantly when his car overturned on a steep Blackfoot hill. Three nurses in the car escaped with minor injuries. another occupant was pinned beneath the vehicle. Huffaker, a 38 year resident, had held posts as assessor and postmaster before serving as sheriff. He leaves a widow.
