Coal price pledge fails to cut Montana costs
The Montana coal consumer will not see price relief from a Washington pledge to cut mine prices from 1 to 1.50 per ton. Most Montana coal comes from Wyoming, Montana output remains small for Butte, and eastern cuts do not impact local miners. Prices for Montana lignite and soft coal have risen steadily while anthracite demand remains limited.
