Pulverized coal furnace starts smoothly at Anaconda works
At Anaconda reduction works the new pulverized coal feeding system fired up for the first time yesterday forenoon. Engineer N L Watford oversaw the installation, adding a 26 by 12 foot housing, a 38 by 4½ foot mill structure, storage and conveyors, and a Raymond firecroft mill. The system delivers fine coal via vacuum and air to a reverberatory furnace, replacing old fire boxes and increasing efficiency with faster, cleaner combustion.

Washoe plant fitted with new reverberatory furnace upgrade
The Washoe plant completes fitting of one of its eight reverberatory furnaces with updated equipment. The remodel aims to raise output from 600 to 80 tons of pulverized coal daily, with six Raymond mills and additional crushers and dryers. Three tracks above hoppers allow fed materials along walls and center, reducing wall burnout and furnace relining. Extended hearth length adds about 10 percent capacity, and hotter, faster combustion could nearly double efficiency. The trial draws metallurgical experts and shows promising early results.
