May Create New Scout Districts
Butte scout master Benjamin Owens reported at the Berkeley California convention January 21 to 24 that the national council discussed dividing the sixth district of 11 states into about three smaller districts. The plan aims to tighten organization across the Pacific Northwest and Southwest with expansion into new territory. The gathering drew 200 scout executives at the Claremont hotel where a Northwest patrol named Jackass Patrol won multiple honors. Owens led yells and songs and received a hotel gift. James E. West praised the Scouts' wartime work and value to citizenship, noting churches aiding nonsectarian troop formation. Resolutions objecting to a girls club using the name Girl Scouts were adopted, with rumors of a Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls merger under consideration.
