Federal officials levy liens on property of individuals in Butte accused of violating prohibition laws. Government action targets seizure and recovery of assets tied to alleged unlawful liquor activities.
Internal Revenue filed liens totaling $164 767 80 against Butte residents for fines and penalties under federal prohibition laws. The notices, recorded by Clerk and Recorder M F Sullivan, reveal extensive penalties from recent federal court trials. Names include Walter Wise with the largest assessment 14530 25, tied to property at 2610 Harrison Avenue.
Snow fell in Hollywood and Elysian Park for the first time in years and reached Long Beach, with ground whitening in many areas north of the city. London reports that the British submarine K-5 sank near the English Channel on Thursday during practice. Commander John A. Gaines and all hands are lost. the vessel carried about six officers and sixty men. Four sister subs were involved in the exercise. The admiralty announced the loss today.
