Bert Maroney Fails To Appear In Court

Bert Maroney the 19 year old son of Anacundi residents and one of three youths accused of burglarizing a cabin trunk and firing on an officer failed to appear on the first day of the January term in district court. Believed to have left the state, he had been placed on probation with reporting requirements and to appear for trial, now at large.

Quinney to spend winter in Pendleton Oregon

Albert Quinney, former organist at St. Mark's in Anaconda, has moved to Pendleton with his father and will likely spend the winter there. The Pendleton Tribune notes he is arranging a sacred concert at Church of the Redeemer for next week, possibly Wednesday night, continuing his musical activity in Oregon.

Tom Foley arraigned on assault charge in Milwaukee court

Tom Foley foreman on the Milwaukee grade was arraigned before Judge Fitzgerald on a third degree assault accusation and pleaded not guilty. He was held on $50 bond and ordered to appear in court next Monday morning. Foley was arrested and brought to the city by the constable Muller.

Delinquent Tax Sale Conducted at County Courthouse

County Treasurer Nadeau held a delinquent tax sale at the courthouse yesterday and sold several parcels with unpaid taxes for the year. Purchasers included George O. Wellcome Frank Strickfadden and Thomas Boland. More properties remain for sale this afternoon.

Miners of Deer Lodge County Plan Helena Meeting

Miners and mine owners from Deer Lodge County intend to travel to Helena for a January 17 meeting aimed at forming a mine owners protective association to address costly smelting charges. Promoters say 7 to 51 percent of Montana owners may be forced to close if conditions persist, with many mines at risk unless charges are reduced and ore value preserved.

Paul Difroving Injures Frontal Skull in Monday Incident

Harry M. Paul sustained a fracture of the frontal bone Monday and is reported doing nicely at Murray's hospital. Doctors entertain a strong hope of recovery. William T. Iler, an employee of Montana Fuel company, is jailed on assault charges related to the incident.

Masquerade Ball Draws Large Crowd at Ty Hall

A large attendance gathered at the Masquerade Ball held at A. O. Ty hall last night. The great hall was crowded at times with merrymakers who reported an enjoyable time. The music was excellent and dancing continued until a late hour.

Amos W. Scott Arrested For Seattle Police

Missoula January 16 Amos W Scott formerly an engineer with Grost Northern Railway was arrested by Chief Miller. He is wanted in Seattle on a grand larceny charge and acknowledged his identity. He agreed to return without extradition and Seattle officials were notified to hold him for transfer.

Permission 15 Granted for Railway Bridge Elevation

The city council approved the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Railway plan to raise the Higgins Avenue Bridge five and a half feet to allow traffic passage beneath the south end of the structure. The work will be at the railway company’s expense, with ends gradually graded. Also discussed was Northern Pacific Railway’s request to close certain streams and alleys for an overhead crossing at Montana and Stevens, with residents opposing a wagon crossing. a meeting will be held with property holders and the railroad to report back at the next regular meeting.

State University Dance and A University Basketball Game

The university basketball team will host an all star city team Friday evening in the gym for practice and experience. The game features guards Bighop and Little and center Montgomery facing city players Joe Farrell Geith Ambrose Barney Corda Lawrence Grady and King Garlington. Admission is free for those with Associated Students dance tickets. The Rhoades scholarship exam will be held January 2 and 22 under President C. J. Craig, with translation, grammar, arithmetic, algebra, and geometry tested. The first semester ends January 24, and efforts for final exams are underway. Dr. J. H. Underwood spoke at the weekly assembly on student conduct, and the university orchestra played two selections.
