First Day Back as Anaconda Students Prep for State Exams

Anaconda public schools reopened after a two week holiday. Eighth graders face state compulsory examinations on January 23 and 24 for high school entrance. About 46 percent of pupils will take the exam, with many remaining in grades for review rather than advancing.

Death of Anaconda resident after tuberculosis battle

Gleds, a 23 year Anaconda resident, died yesterday at Ste Ann's hospital after months with tuberculosis following four races. Born in Pennsylvania, he worked in wood trials and is survived by relatives. Funeral arrangements are at Lawley and French parlors with a requiem high mass at St Pauls and burial at Mt Calvary Cemetery.

Lawsuit Filed Over Forged Note in District Court

District court filings show 3. dl. Mazes suing ML Hammergrough and W. Copinus to recover 50 and an attorney fee on a note alleged to be forged. The note, issued May 14, 100, was payable at N J PitzPatrick's office in Ang conda, with the complaint hinting it may be the instrument G G Wisner is accused of forging.

Fire destroys stall building in Mainville saloon

A stall building in the bay of the McLaughlin saloon in Mainville caught fire last night and was consumed. The fire department arrived promptly but a gale wind caused extensive damage before they could contain it. The property, owned by Mr McLaughlin, was occupied by two Chinese cooks. Loss estimated at 3300.

Anaconda City Council Regular Session Notes

Anaconda City Council met in regular session with Mayor Evans and eight aldermen present. Discussions covered a property flood claim, health officer duties and pay, franchise compliance questions with the telephone company, sidewalk repairs, and financial reports. The council adjourned pending further sessions after approving assessments and bills.

Emily Blanchard Dies of Pneumonia in Missoula

Mrs Emily Blanchard aged 73 died at her daughter's home 117 Monroe street after a lengthy pneumonia illness. Family gathered at the bedside as the end came in Missoula today.

Missoula District Court Hears Several Criminal Cases

Missoula judge Webster presided as Jai Buitile colored defendant faced first degree assault charges and was held on 750 bond after pleading not guilty. C K Carter, Charles Sellers and M F P Dawa faced grand larceny charges with pleas of not guilty. Dowd and Sellers sought separate trials while Carter was not arraigned. Charles Menhing charged with robbery pleaded not guilty and awaits trial.

Misgouls and Peterson Face Train Assault Case

Misgouls Jan &-Assett Paterson stood before Justice Phillips charged with third degree assault. Paterson pleaded guilty and received 30 days. On a Northern Pacific train he struck a stranger who refused to buy him a ticket to Spokane. An officer on board arrested him at the next stop. Fifteen vagrants appeared in court with most pleading guilty and receiving donierr. One man, Slade He onya, pleaded not guilty and awaits trial.

Woman Seeks Divorce in Missoula Court

Margaret A. O'Neill filed for divorce from John C. O'Neill in district court alleging abandonment and failure to support due to idleness and drinking. The couple married in Philipsburg in September 1900. attorney B C Mulroney represents the plaintiff and asks that costs be charged to the husband.
