Saunders assures new transports designed to carry troops are unsinkable despite a rumored design flaw. A thirty foot hole would not affect their seaworthiness, he states, arguing the hull and internal compartments provide full protection and stability.
William T Saunders told a University of Pennsylvania alumni dinner in New York that new methods enable troop transports and submarines to be sunk by enemies. He cited a government ship in this city that cannot be sunk by torpedoes and would stay afloat despite a large hole.
