A high officer of Republican forces declares the Army of Irish will conduct extensive operations while praising his own morale and noting Crown soldiers are not equally affected.
Helena Feb 5. The legislature opened debate on a 4.5 million bond issue to pay a $10 monthly soldiers bonus for World War I veterans, capped county city and school tax increases at 3 percent, and required the state board of examiners to justify budget entries with vote records. Also debated were fish and game measures, licenses, and a $1.50 license fee.
Dublin reports a high Irish republican army officer granting an interview under secrecy. He disputes claims of a disbanded force and says attacks will intensify nationwide with a new weekly communique. He dodges naming Collins while noting a large reward is offered for his arrest.
The house passed the joint resolution directing enlistment stoppage until the regular army drops to 175000. It overrode President Wilson's veto by 271 to 16 with one member present.
Helena February report says Governor Dix vetoed the Payl bill requiring teachers in all schools and state institutions to take an oath of loyalty. The veto cites constitutional limits on oaths for public office and warns future assemblies could enact partisan test oaths.
The Montana Supreme Court upheld the initiative funding ending a standstill on a $5,000,000 university building program. The state plans immediate sale of $1,750,000 in bonds, with $250,000 earmarked for the mining school to complete the chemistry and metallurgy building and to develop the stadium on the ravine site.
Workmen tearing down an abandoned Chinese laundry at 449 North Wyoming Street in Butte found four pairs of hands in a bag. Police investigated and Chinese merchants Quong Loute and Hum Yow were questioned as detectives pursued the case. Authorities noted residents recalled the building had been empty for months.
The senate late today adopted an amendment to the sundry civil service appropriation bill authorizing ten million dollars for continuing construction of the dam and power site at Muscle Shoals Alabama.
Manila report says Francis Burton Harrison cabled his resignation to President Wilson today and requests acceptance on March 4, ending his term as governor general of the Philippines.
After a gale drove the steam schooner Klamath into a rock circled cove at Delar 80 miles north of San Francisco, passengers and crew were believed ashore safe as the vessel battered and torn tonight.
The Senate heard that Senator Knox did not offer a resolution to remit allied debts. Secretary Houston stated the Treasury would not pursue negotiations to exchange demand obligations for long term notes, noting past agreements and the August 1920 British deal involving 122 million dollars of obligations. The discussion reaffirmed no binding proposals have been made beyond that agreement.
In Helena on February 5 the Senate and House named joint committees to study administration measures before the legislature. Ten members from each chamber will work together to decide a plan of action, following a Republican caucus after the governor urged swift support for his measures.
Mrs. W. G. Harding slipped into a New York theater seat in the fifth row and watched the performance unobserved by curious patrons, remaining incognito as the distinguished guest.

Unanimous verdict from Butte chamber of commerce Rotary club and Silver Bow Road association opposed Senator Junod one man highway commission bill. Meeting chaired by A J Davis urged members to defeat the measure and maintain the 12 member elected commission with three executives. Attendees included J K Hesler Eugene Carroll and others.
In Los Angeles on February 5 a jury found Mrs Louise L Peete guilty of first degree murder in the slaying of Jacob Charles Denton and fixed life imprisonment as the penalty after about six hours deliberation.
Jerry Casey a 40 year old part owner of the Hub bar in Butte was drowned when the car he rode in plunged over an embankment near Walnut and Carolina streets into Silver Bow creek. Moriarity and the Balkwill brothers were arrested on drunkenness suspicions as investigators stated the car was driven blindly toward the creek. The body was recovered after neighbors and others freed the rear of the wreckage and Casey was pronounced dead by the coroner's office after attempts at resuscitation failed.

London reports Mrs. Charles Stewart Parnell died at her Brighton home after a lingering illness at 76. Known as Mrs. Kitty O'Shea she was long linked to the Irish leader's career and a key figure in the scandal that contributed to Parnell's downfall. She was once Mrs. William Henry O'Shea and the daughter of Rev. Sir John Page Wood.
