General Strike movement in the German Empire is crushed by the military. A motor truck carrying American soldiers passes through France where local children offer mowers and treats. The Sammies are popular, with villages declaring holidays as troops pass.
A fire at The Standard building in Anaconda around 11 o clock last night prevented a morning edition. The blaze was reported under control early this morning, but full damage could not yet be determined. The Miner Company supplied this edition.
A cabinet member and top official faces blame for deficiencies since the war began. The article notes the official acknowledges the situation but claims no deliberate wrongdoing.

Associated Press reports the general strike across Germany largely ended after martial law and military threats. Leaders urged workers to return to their tasks as authorities push war effort, with quietude prevailing except in Jena where student sympathy fuels unrest.
A blaze discovered at 10:50 p m in the Anaconda building of the Standard spread from an elevator shaft to the roof. Fire crews from the city and Washoe smelter fought eight water streams and used a steamer to control the flames, with material for Red Cross work moved to safety. Offices and presses suffered severe damage on the second floor while the southwest offices of Raymond Hall were gutted.
Eleven damage suits seek 10 000 to 30 000 each stemming from the North Butte mine fire of June. Plaintiffs challenge the compensation act as unconstitutional and argue shifts were not covered. Cases heard on demurrers and motions to dismiss, with rulings deferred.
