Widows' dependent claims settled by state board
Helena December 23. Chairman A E Spriggs said the state accident board completed the first of 26 settlements for foreign residents whose husbands died in Montana accidents during the war and who could not file in time. The North Butte Mining Co paid 1690 to Christo Lillopolous consul of Greece and attorney in fact for Lazarus Kontovrakis widow. Kontovrakis, known as Louis Peters, was killed February 1918 in a Speculator mine fall. The widow’s claim was outlawed for late application, but payment was made in line with law allowing only half to foreign residents. The board likely will not pay George Simonsen of Rowan, injured October 8 while hauling legs, as Rogers Co did not elect to come under the law until December 1.
