San Jose California December 22 Four children aged 11 8 10 and 5 died in a farmhouse fire at Conrad Ruff's dairy north of town. Mrs Ruff and a hired man Valdez were severely burned and two other children were injured. The blaze started when a gasoline stove exploded while the family slept.

In Antwerp on December 22 strikers clashed with police at Cockrell wharf and other docks. Police sabres and revolvers were used as 30 workers were reported wounded while 2000 strikers tried to halt operations. Officials impose strict guards ahead of a royal entry.
Ike B. Sheldon was found guilty of perjury in a Helena land office case and faces sentencing Monday before Judge Knowles. He claimed ignorance of his marriage status and acknowledged two children bearing his name, while admitting potential prior entry filings in 1882 and 1884. The jury delivered verdict after deliberations shortly after 5 p.m.
Omaha December 22 There were no new developments today in the Edward Cudahy Jr kidnapping case but the discovery of the prison house has spurred fresh leads. Police obtained descriptions of gang members and their van, and Mr Cudahy monitors progress while keeping silent on specifics.
