Grand larceny trial of Moffat and McDonald ends in disagreement
After 27 hours the jury could not reach a verdict in the grand larceny case of W. G. Moffat and George McDonald. Judge McClernan discharged the jury. The pair, dairy and butchering operators near the Reception roadhouse, were accused of driving Mrs. Michaud's cow into their corral and slaughtering it. The hide later surfaced at a junkyard and was linked to the defendants who allegedly sold it. Beef sales to McCarthy followed two days after the cow’s disappearance. The jury reportedly stood nine to convict, three to acquit, and the case will return at the next district court term with possible new evidence.
