Harbert Seeks Liberal Flathead Irrigation Funds

James Harbert of the Flat head Water Users association urged the House Indian Affairs Committee to approve a larger federal appropriation for the Flat head irrigation project. Interior recommends 1,000,000, but lawmakers aim to cut to 100,000 amid budget cuts. Harbert plans to continue his case tomorrow as prospects look uncertain. Separately, Rep. Riddick introduces a 4,000,000 loan measure for seed purchases by drought-stricken farmers.

Butte Fuel Dealers Receive Direct Coal Deliveries

For the first time since the fuel administration began, Butte fuel dealers received coal directly without administration supervision. Eleven cars from Diamondville mine run coal, bound for Anaconda Copper Mining Co., arrived, with nearly equal cars consigned to dealers. Fuel Administrator John H. McIntosh said coal is moving toward Butte and the administration may no longer need to function as before. The need to aid destitute families was evident as many had no money to buy fuel, keeping inspectors busy and most remaining fuel allocated to meet this demand.
