Spanking Pancho Villa Quip Becomes Film Memoir Tale
Manuel Mendoza, 84, recounts paddling Villa in Merida Yucatan about 40 years ago, a tale he shares while working as an extra in The Beautiful Beggar at Universal City. He recalls Villa burned a tablecloth, Mendoza seized him, and Villa later remembered the incident decades later without retaliation. The tale is linked to Mendoza's cameo as a Turk in the Dean production, formerly The Virgin of Amboul, nearing completion in Hollywood.
