Plains, Dec 1 A sheriff posse tracked Robert Smith wanted for killing Clarene Clark near Victor last Monday. He shot himself to avoid arrest as found west of Hilde. Smith died en route to Thompson Falls hospital. A revolver with empty chambers lay near the body and a note bearing his name stated I killed Clarence. Sheriff Massey identified the body as the man wanted for the Clark killings, linking Smith to the quarrel over money prior to the shooting.
Special Disputes to the Standard Billings Dec 11. Gertrude Wilson a 3 year old girl died after attempting to start a fire with coal oil while her parents were away. The child poured coal oil on embers causing the dress to ignite. Neighbors arrived too late to save her. a physician could not prevent the death.
Abraham Ruef, convicted of bribery in a lengthy trial, will be arraigned for judgment before Judge Lawlor. The defense weighs an appeal, while prosecutors may face fresh indictments as Hiram Johnson Matt Ivan and J J Dwyer withdraw from the case.

New departure at Great Northern offices in St Paul today announces a telephone dispatch system for the Minot division from Devil's Lake to Williston since 233 miles long and to be extended to Cut Bank Montana and Butte division. The system will connect Willmar vision and reach 1 286 miles total, with Northern Pacific already using telephone dispatch between here and Fargo.
