Stewart not stingy with liquor case under Judge Grimes
Allan Stewart described as generous by Judge Grimes after paying 72 cents per gallon for liquor. He gave it away to friends, claiming he bought it from a Canadian runner in Butte. The raid followed a scene with James McLuggan at Stewart's room. McLuggan, later dismissed, said no one paid for drinks. Stewart had 18 dollars when arrested and faced sentencing amid speculation of linked money losses. The court referenced his out of work status and high liquor prices.
