Kansas land frauds on immense scale

United States grand jury in Topeka, Kansas, hears indications of vast land fraud schemes involving cattlemen and fraudulent homestead entries. Indictments include 33 counts accusing misuse of public lands and authorized persons in securing fraudulent entries as officers prepare to call more witnesses. Wealthy defendants are named as part of a rapid, ongoing probe led by Col. A. L. Greens in the U.S. Land Office investigation.

Jury Fails to Indict Lawson and He Is Freed Again

Boston reports the grand jury did not indict Thomas W. Lawson, who had been held in custody by the municipal court on related charges. Clarence W. Warren presented the case. Lawson had testified before the grand jury in connection with a criminal libel claim. The outcome ends the dispute between Lawson and Norton as far as criminal courts are concerned. Norton’s charges involved an article tied to a magazine and allegedly by Lawson. Lawson’s complaint drew on statements in Barton’s newspaper.

No Indemnity Sought for the Cruel Murder

New York Dee That the Chinese Government will not be required to pay punitive damages for the murder of several missionaries of the Presbyterian board of foreign missions at Linchau China.
