Timber and wood cutting amid coal strike relief
To ease suffering from the coal strike, Nels Pearson of Mines Timber Co has halted all stump work at timber camps and has workers cutting cord wood. Daily output averages 225 cords, mainly for smelters in Anaconda and Butte, with 15 to 25 carloads arriving every other day from Georgetown. Weekly consumption runs about 1,000 cords. Anaconda shows relatively light fuel shortage due to dealer cooperation and stockpiles of around 100 tons. If Utah and Wyoming consignments continue, small lots will meet demand. Kooi district miners in Wyoming press on, while Burlington Railway resists Montana coal shipments, claiming need elsewhere. Local officials seek release of shipments covered by Montana orders.
