The renowned Montana physician Erasmus Darwin Leavitt died at his Butte home shortly after 4 am at age 76 after two weeks of critical illness. A pioneer of Bannack and Virginia City, he served in early Montana politics and medicine, leaving a widow and daughter Frances.
