The company had raised wages and kept mines open, but the walkout halted copper production and threatened related operations in Butte, Anaconda, and Great Falls.
W. H. Rodgers, labor department representative and adviser to the national council of defense, arrived in Butte after a message urging action amid talks of a general district shutdown.
