Railroad Assessor Figures Raise Montana Property Values
Special Dispatch to the Standard from Helena reports that Montana railroad property is believed to be assessed on a higher basis than other property. The article cites figures from the assessor's returns and lists major categories such as mortgages, express and utilities, stocks, household goods, and farm equipment with substantial year over year increases. The piece notes discrepancies and contrasts with prior year valuations, highlighting rail and related properties as key drivers of the state’s unequalized totals.
