James C Savery Dies at Cable Mountain Home
Special Dispatch reports James C Savery died at his Cable residence at 6 pm from heart failure after a period of ill health. Born 1824 near East Wareham Massachusetts he moved to California in 1849 then Des Moines Iowa where he built the first newspaper and the Savery Hotel. He came to Montana in 1876 to run the Cable mine, building a fine home at Cable and amassing wealth from mining. He is survived by a wife and son, with remains to Des Moines for cremation and no local funeral services.
