Reports say a group of African American individuals barricaded in a barn armed with shotguns. After the door was broken in a confrontation, a man named Randolph fired a match causing the group to open fire injuring him and a second man. Three were said killed, eight taken to jail, and Sheriff Long reported quiet upon return from Shannon.

Mutiny at Centerville county jail leaves Sheriff Davis seriously wounded. Sheriff’s wife seized an axe and with Deputy Bevington’s revolver forced prisoners back to their cells. The disturbance follows prior jail break attempts, two of which succeeded in the past week.
