A large blaze swept through Pia County’s famed mining camp, engulfing shacks and equipment. Firefighters battled the flames as residents evacuated, with no immediate report of injuries though several structures were left smoldering. The cause remained under investigation.

Capital stock set at 2 million with 1.5 million subscribed. Route would cross from Denver Enid Gulf east from Oklahoma City Texarkana connecting with Southern Pacific.
The Philadelphia Mint will nearly close with gold and silver coinage suspended. Treasury explanation cites exhausted stock of silver bullion and no current demand for gold. Kan Aug 15 Mrs Harvey Null charged with murder in the first degree for allegedly poisoning her husband, a well to do farmer, and H C Kelly charged with aiding and abetting. Null died Aug 6 after a supper cooked by his wife. coroner’s jury found 24 grains of arsenic in his stomach. Warrants issued. Null released on bond. Kelly unable to furnish bail.

San Francisco reports Private Fred Farmer of the first battery of field artillery died at the Presidio drill when a gun carriage collapsed under a fresh horse team. He jumped backward to escape, fell beneath the front wheels, and the wheel broke his ribs before dying en route to hospital.
