Portsmouth reports a firmer mood toward a successful Washington Conference amid Japan Russia talks. While terms on indemnity and Sakhalin remain unsettled, officials note secrecy and limited progress after four hours of debate. Plenipotentiaries adjourned until tomorrow with no settlement.

Philadelphia reports Cornelius P. Shea won re election as head of the Brotherhood of Teamsters despite opposition. Daniel Furman of Chicago and Edward L. Turley were defeated. seven vice presidents, all Shea supporters, were chosen including Alexander Dijeau of San Francisco.
Christiania Norway August 12 Tomorrow the referendum on dissolving the union will be observed as a fete day. National flags adorn the streets and steamers on coast and fjords carry voters free and crowded with people heading to polling places for the historic act.
Andrew P. Anderson and Henry Holland, both herders for J. B. Okie, quarreled over range division at a Deep Creek sheep camp near Lost Cabin. Anderson shot first. Holland retrieved a rifle from his wagon and killed Anderson with a shot to the abdomen after a several minute fusillade. Holland surrendered to authorities.
In Portsmouth on August 12 M Witte plans to attend church services the next morning saying he is a Christian and will go to the Protestant church since no orthodox church is available. He remarks he does not want a conference session and notes evacuation and base transfer talks at the Manchuria issue.
A bomb exploded on Sourayskaia street in Belostok Russia today killing several people and injuring others. Emergency crews cordon the area as investigations begin.

Helena Aug. 12 The jury in the United States court found R M Cobban not guilty of subornation perjury after less than two hours of deliberation. The verdict centered on whether an agreement existed to transfer lands in the case involving Lelia Bryan. Special Prosecutor Maynard indicated readiness to take up related charges against Cobban. Judge Hunt instructed the jury on evaluating an alleged preconcerted agreement and cautioned on relying on Griswold as an accomplice.

Livingston August 12 A Hyde Park rancher John Uhle was fatally injured tonight when a wagon loaded with machinery overturned while crossing a creek three miles from town. He was crushed beneath the wagon and suffered a fractured skull.
Attorneys Marshall and Stiff returned from Helena after two weeks defending Cobban. A message from Helena announced the verdict acquitting their client. The news was met with satisfaction in Missoula where Cobban is held in high esteem.
Manila August 12 Mrs Dubois wife of Senator Fred T Dubois of Idaho visiting the Philippines with Secretary Taft was thrown from her carriage during a runaway and carried by ambulance to a hospital where she lay unconscious for three hours. Her injuries are not dangerous though she is badly bruised and jarred. The accident may interrupt her southern trip. The guest of Dr and Mrs Stafford she rode with the Staffords their one year old baby and governess the baby was saved at the governesss peril. Mrs Dubois is now fully conscious.
In Warsaw on August 12 a spate of killings tied to worker unrest escalates. The Lilpoprau factory manager was shot at his residence amid striker activity, marking a lethal turn in the industrial tension gripping the city.
