British leaders Lloyd George and Brian in a real deadlock as the Supreme Council faces unreconciled differences. The work of the council cannot be completed for the present amid rising tensions over the Upper Silesian boundary issue.
In Paris on August 11, British Prime Minister Lloyd George and French Premier Briand failed to agree on the Upper Silesia line after Irish replies arrived. Lloyd George planned a London cabinet meeting as Italians pressed for settlement at a dinner, with Italian delegates remaining to attend a possible Saturday supreme council session. The British delegation issued a statement after the dispute became clear.
James E. Mahoney appeared in superior court in Seattle on an arraignment for the murder of elderly bride Kate M. Ney whose disappearance led to the discovery of a body, packed in quicklime, in a trunk on Lake Union. He was granted until next Tuesday to plead.

Charles N. Roberts, 15, son of Dr. C A Roberts of Butt, killed himself between 5 and midnight last night using a rod over a transom in his second floor room at 208 West Park. His body was found and cut down by his father shortly before midnight. Police sought to clear up mysteries surrounding the death as two straps and a rag were used. He climbed on a trunk, then jumped.
