A suspected yellow fever case in New York enters quarantine as officials confirm a fatal outcome from the dread disease. Authorities describe a rapid illness with limited public detail while investigations proceed.
The report details a fatal yellow fever case aboard the steamer Advance and multiple suspects at quarantine. Health officials note this is the first summer with more than one case, with Panama supplying most patients. Authorities estimate cases and stress rapid medical exams as the city seeks federal support.
Washington Aug 6 public health and Marine Hospital Service assume control of the yellow fever response in New Orleans. Ward by ward deployment, experienced surgeons take charge of local areas with full authority. Oyster Bay N Y Aug 6—citizens of New Orleans and Louisiana thank President Roosevelt for prompt government aid in fighting yellow fever. Telegram from New Orleans letters expresses gratitude for action and funds to support the service as needed.
A crash at a crossing left six dead and one fatally injured. Names include Gertrude Startin, Patrick Kildum, Michael Hussey, Trey Halters, and Charles Blackman among others. A separate shooting near the Northern Pacific depot ended with a man killed as George Sherman was pursued by officers.
Salt Lake report from Cumberland Wyoming states two men were killed and several others injured at Union Pacific Coal Company Mine No. 1. Deceased are Joseph Anderson and James Sellers. Seriously injured include Joseph Corrigan and Frank Sabetta with broken backs and other injuries. Thomas Evans, John Mister, William Wilcox among lightly hurt. All the injured went to Rock Springs by special train. A blast had been fired and coal fell from overhead causing the disaster.

In Portland Oregon Aug G ental drugs occurred in the Willamette river below the city. Erle Bl recently from Chicago perished while bathing after his companion was struck by a cramp and drowned. Floyd Havird 17 slipped from a river board as several boys watched unable to help. his body was recovered.
The Russian minister to China, Mr. Poko tilov, toured St. Paul en route to join the peace commission where he serves as an advisory member. He arrived this morning with private secretary P. Nojestyensky Bachivilet and departed tonight for the East.
General Superintendent Shae reports vacancies rapidly filled with competent men. Rail traffic resumes normal, with trains on schedule and freight moving promptly. Applications pour in at St Paul and eastern offices as former strikers seek reinstatement.

In San Francisco Aug J Le Hell age 2 years shot and killed his stepfather Joseph Bartlett aged about 40 during a violent quarrel over work with Bartlett a fruit peddler. Bell, Bartlett's helper and stepmother to Le Hell, was struck by the axe. Hell procured a small rifle and fired into Bartlett's breast. Both mother and son were detained by authorities as details emerge of the deadly clash amid domestic strife.
A rancher named Ram M. Thomeson was found dead in an apparent violent incident prompting a local investigation. Officials say the motive is unclear as details remain under review and no arrests have been reported. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
The Japanese envoys aboard the Mayflower and Dolphin faced thick fog delaying their Portsmouth arrival. M. Witte and Baron Rosen, escorted by Commander Winslow, sailed from Newport, with planned formal reception in Portsmouth postponed to Monday night or Tuesday morning.
A massive Manila parade celebrated Secretary of War Taft and party with about ten thousand participants. The Witte group and Heaton and party stayed at the Hotel Touraine in Newport overnight and were driven away immediately. Reports say they plan to depart early tomorrow for a porte month Accor ory Vilenkin, the Russian embassy, and two secret service officers accompanied them when the train stopped at Basie Bay station.
