The Supreme Court sustains charges of illegal combination against the Reading Company and several coal subsidiaries. The decision reinforces antitrust action related to market control and coordinated practices within the coal sector.
The Supreme Court, in a 4 to 3 decision, sustains government charges of an illegal combination against the Reading company and certain railroad and coal subsidiaries. The ruling orders dissolution of the holding entity and separation of the Central Railroad of New Jersey from its subsidiary coal company.
Telegraphed from official channels, reports say renewed rebel activity near Mexico City. Cuernavaca, capital of Morelos, reportedly in rebel hands, with the railroad cut. war in Palestine also noted with fighting between Arabs and British troops.
Butte members host visiting officers including J Ouerman former K of C member Albert Bagsey and state deputy secretary McGinley in attendance. The event highlights fraternity bonds and organizational leadership within the Knights.
William J. McGinley supreme secretary of the Knights of Columbus outlined preliminary plans in Butte to open a Knights of Columbus school for ex service men. More than 500 Butte citizens attended a Chamber of Commerce get together banquet. Speakers urged forming a civic organization to promote a Bigger and Better Butte and attract new industries to make Butte a Northwest manufacturing hub. The drive aims to recruit 1 000 members with canvassing of every business house starting at 9 30 a m and continuing through Saturday night.
In Turtle Lake, investigators report bloodhounds failed to pick up a scent in their sweep of the Wolf farm area where eight bodies were found. The search covered counties across the surrounding region.
American gamblers in Agua Prieta Sonora went on strike demanding 15 dollars a day instead of 10. Closest gamblers were said to be using their places during the action.
Montana returns from the presidential preference primary trickled in slowly on April 7. By late reports Silver Bow Butte showed 27 of 78 precincts, while Great Falls reported 13 of 78. Senate candidate Hiram Johnson led in early returns as voters await full results with May 8 as the official count date.
A meeting of the state fish and game commission in Anaconda approved introducing Chinese pheasants to counter native game losses. They plan to buy 300 birds and maximize egg production, distributing stock to suitable areas. The commission also ordered repairs at the state fish hatchery including building painting. Attendees included Joseph L. Kelly and other officials from Helena Missoula and Kalispell.
