Washington April 21 after three days debate the senate adjourned without a vote on the Bankhead good roads bill and under the new program the measure will be displaced by the rural credit bill. An amendment by Senator Harding would require states to guarantee maintenance for 10 years. Senator Smoot offered Bourne bill substitute calling for federal credit to states up to 50 years and 500 million dollars for road building.
John Harrison Surratt, last survivor among the corps linked to Lincoln’s assassination plot, died in Baltimore at 72. Former general freight agent for the Baltimore Steam Packet Co, he served in the Confederate secret service during the Civil War and fled abroad before being brought back for trial.

Amsterdam reports Aaron Kolmer von der Goltz commander in chief of the first Turkish army died Wednesday of spotted fever at Turkish army headquarters. Rowing Wyoming April 21 Union Pacific passenger train No 21 was halted by a lone bandit west of Hanna. He forced the guard to collect from passengers in the observation car and had the brakeman gather valuables from sleepers. The bandit jumped off near Edson and fled toward the hills after failing to shoot conductor James Sneriock. Forty three passengers were robbed.
