Congressman Blanton of Texas launches a sharp reply to Samuel Gompers head of the Federation attacking in a fierce speech. The exchange highlights tensions between political leaders and the labor federation amid mounting partisan rhetoric.
In Dallas on April 20 representative Thomas L Blanton of Texas condemned Samuel Gompers and unions. He claimed federal wage increases came from strike threats and accused unions of forcing higher pay through railroads and telegraphs. He linked labor turmoil to democracy, war, and prohibition.
York April 20. North America influence on Chile and Chilean life grows as old political diplomacy declines, replaced by commercial diplomacy. Belin Mathieu, Chile's newly appointed ambassador to the United States, states this in a statement published by the National Association of Manufacturers' official organ.
New York on April 20 reported Easter display failed to hold attention as crowds flocked to Victory loan exhibits on Fifth Avenue and Riverside Drive. Navy ships, sailорs, and candy distributions drew wide interest while religious services and entertainments were held aboard vessels.
56 Charlottesville rifles arrived in Stanardsville to protect the courthouse for the April term opening. Edgar Morris, son of Greene County deputy sheriff, faces murder charges for killing a magistrate after a church disturbance. Herman Schieflett will also face a hearing for allegedly aiding Morris's escape.
Two vehicles collided and overturned in the center of the road yesterday afternoon near Butte. Mrs L A May wife of a local business owner and her seven week old grandson William Peres died. Mrs George A Pierce and her husband were injured. Anna Kirkpatrick was also hurt. Driver Dan Malloy and Otis Lee, clerk of courts, survived with the Pierce family. Witnesses recalled a fast car approaching and a sudden swerve by the Pierce car that precipitated the crash. Malloy and Lee blamed the turn on Pierce while Pierce’s car toppled and the baby’s body was recovered at the scene. Mrs May had traveled from Rochester, Minn, with plans to stop in Minneapolis earlier.
New York on April 20 resolutions urged recognition of the Irish republic as an act of justice and good faith by the United States and admission of its delegates to the peace conference. The Clan na Gael mass meeting marked Easter Monday events in Dublin on April 2 1916 and the reestablishment of the Dail Eireann.

Weather favored but storms forced postponement of their attempt for the $30,000 prize offered by the London Daily Air for the first successful transatlantic crossing.
Maj J C Wood and navigator Capt C Wylie survived a mid channel crash after engine trouble forced a descent near Holyhead. Wood said the engine faltered at 3,000 feet and the aircraft nose dived then submerged briefly before they were thrown from their seats. Parker in a separate plane observed the event from a field.
