A Special Dispatch from Minneapolis April 20 reports the Ninth federal reserve district leading in the third Liberty loan drive. Rogers notes district purchases total about 187 million dollars with Minnesota reaching 38.9 million and Minneapolis area at 87.6 million. Michigan and Wisconsin still tallying totals. Farmers and German-blood communities show strong subscription. The grand total is expected higher as states finalize returns.
Washington reports half of the four week Liberty loan campaign completed with 55.3 million subscriptions toward a three billion minimum while Germany's eighth war loan nears 85.5 billion marks. Treasury appeals urge speed to surpass the three billion mark in 12 days, with district totals adding 160.3 million. In Vladivostok, officials fear no international complications though German bandits are active in Siberia amid anti foreign sentiment.

Washington April 20 The American steamship Lake Moor on her maiden voyage with a naval crew aboard was sunk by an enemy submarine in European waters about midnight April 11. Five officers including Lieutenant Commander Kinchen J Powers and 12 enlisted men have been landed at an English port. The navy announced 89 missing and listed names of officers and men. Some were rescued including Lieut. Commander Powers and Lieut. William D Goodman. The report continues on page six.
British and German forces clash in Kemmel-Railleul as 29 fresh German divisions are engaged on the Lys front. Officers lead assaults, while British airmen earn praise for a failed enemy fighter engagement. a British plane crashes but rescuers recover the crew.
Private F W Adams of the First Canadian division, wounded and prisoner for 15 months in Germany then 16 months in Switzerland, arrived in Vancouver and visited Butte before returning home. He spoke little of combat or captivity, but conveyed cheer to American soldiers and urged sending letters and parcels from home. Unsettled cooling weather is forecast for Montana with possible fair intervals.
In France on April 20 American forces beat back twelve hundred German storm troops in a one mile front near Renneres forest northwest of Toul. After fierce fighting the village of Leicheprey was retaken and no Americans were captured. German casualties were heavy with several planes downed and two enemy airmen killed, while American airmen and anti aircraft batteries protected the lines. Meyers named mayor candidate in Minneapolis.
