The second man in the murder of Sylvester J. Prenatt in Butte is found guilty and sentenced to the extreme penalty. The verdict follows extensive deliberation by the jury and marks the culmination of a high profile homicide case.
The jury condemned Theodore Chronos to death for the murder of Sylvester Prenatt after less than two hours of deliberation. Chronos testified he was at the Prenatt house the night of the shooting and that Prenatt, fatally wounded, asked to be killed, while Mrs. Prenatt sobbed in court witnessing the testimony. Chronos was the second of three defendants to receive the extreme penalty.
A lone bandit boarded the A T & S F mail train at Lexington Junction Mo 80 miles east of here near Sheffield Kansas City and robbed the mail car. He forced four clerks to the floor bound them and then bound a fifth before rifling registered mail. No loot amount was reported.
British Prime Minister David Lloyd George will depart London on Saturday for San Remo Italy to join the upcoming peace conference session. The move signals Britain’s active role in shaping postwar settlement policies at the conference.
Musicians and stage employees in Butte walked out after managers refused to remove Associated Industries signs. The strike closed most theaters with only the Empress and Harrison Avenue theater spared briefly. Managers canceled upcoming shows as city venues halted operations until a settlement.
The New York grand jury indicted Police Inspector Dominica Henry and two detectives along with a restaurant proprietor Peter Galliotti and three employees for keeping a disorderly house in the west side vice raid. Detectives Gunson and Moloney face charges of perjury. Gunson also faces bribery and extortion counts.
London reports after talks between Premier Lloyd George and French ambassador Paul Cambon that France acted on its own initiative to occupy German towns in the Ruhr, with Britain the United States Italy and Belgium opposing the move. Aimed at easing the delicate situation, options discussed included allied officers supervising withdrawal or leaving the decision to Germany with possible allied enforcement if needed. Washington notes favor allowing Germany to deploy troops to restore order within limits.
A British official white paper lists 1089 outrages in Ireland from January 1919 to March 29 1920 attributed to the Sinn Fein movement. Thirty one police military and officials and five civilians were killed. 81 were fired upon and 82 assaulted. over 200 police barracks destroyed during Easter week.
Chicago authorities report no immediate meat shortage despite scattered coal shortages. Railroad managers say yard activity is at peak since the strike began and that improved handling of cars and detouring of goods will be arranged within a day or two.

At the Silver Bow club in Butte a Montana section meeting outlined a plan to decentralize the college and enable state level organization and annual meetings. Dr. Franklin H. Martin outlined the goals, with representatives from Butte Lewistown Missoula and other cities attending. An executive committee was named to organize the Montana section and plan the first convention, date TBD.
In Antigo Wisconsin a tied vote between incumbent John Benishek and challenger Charles Hansen led to a coin toss to determine the mayor. Benishek won the flip and remains mayor.

In Chicago and other cities an unauthorized strike by switchmen and railroad enginemen began in the Chicagea district and spread today. A F Whitney vice president of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and S E Heberling international president of the Switchmen's Union predicted the stoppage would be broken within 48 hours. The strike situation in Chicago continues.
J L Webb special agent for the department of justice in Butte warned radicals to alter their stance or leave Montana. He said the justice department enforces law there and will not tolerate disloyal behavior while noting Albert Bailey's arrest for selling anarchistic literature.
