Fire at Sea Forces Abandonment of Coal Vessel Frankinstan
The British coal carrier Frankinstan from Newcastle to San Francisco was abandoned April 3 after gas and smoke filled its holds and two explosions struck the ship. Captain Atkinson and 26 crew were rescued by the schooner H C Wright and reached San Francisco. The ship and cargo, valued around 290000 dollars, were insured.
