Walk-out of hoisting engineers shuts Butte mines
About 3,000 miners at Anaconda Parrot and Washoe mines were idle after hoisting engineers quit at 6 pm over wage demands from $4 to $5 per day. The walk-out, not union authorized, sparks potential further job losses at Anaconda smelters. A separate union for direct acting hoisting engineers formed with Grady as president.
