A survey notes 1298 more Sunday school scholars in Ireland. Iceland’s Lutheran Church counts about 72 000 members. 300 delegates will attend the 1901 ecumenical Methodist conference in London. In Frankfort prison two Christian Endeavor societies exist for whites and for colored men. London Y M C A adds departments aiding blind and deaf girls. Chicago schools chief E Benjamin Andrews insures for 10 000 to fund a teachers pension, urging others to follow. Miners at Carbon Hill Illinois form a new Y M C A. The Y M C A expands among railroad workers and neglected miners.
The semi centennial number of the St Paul Pioneer Press will appear in October 1899 to mark fifty years of publication since 1849. The mammoth issue will be not less than fifty two pages with a four color cover and special orders for newsdealers. An advertising driven story foresees value to readers and merchants alike. A testimonial from Mrs John Dowling praises Electric Bitters as a cure for stomach trouble with benefits to digestion and appetite.
Advertises the Times- Republican as the best evening and daily paper in Iowa with strong Associ ated Press news and expansive Iowa coverage. Promotes a semi weekly edition for one dollar per year and a mail offer with the Times. Also notes excursion tickets and local ads for Grove’s fruits teas and Big Loaf Flour.
