A Nevada youth deserts the Navy after enlisting at the Naval Training School in Great Jukes station. He was assigned to the Des Moines recruiting area and is believed to have fled in June. A reward of 925 is offered for his apprehension.

Co op Experiments Proving Success Across Iowa Farms

Professor J Buchanan reports cooperative soil and crop experiments expanding to ninety of Iowa’s counties. The program tests wheat barley oats corn fodder alfalfa pasture renovation and rock phosphate soil treatments. Free materials and guidance are provided with strives to popularize alfalfa and hay crops and evaluate new winter wheats for higher yields.

Central Iowa Fair Stock Show Highlights At Ames

Ames October 3rd report describes the Contra Iowa Fair with shows of fine stock from central Iowa. Exhibits include thoroughbreds from Cambridges, Vadrid, Keller, McDalistars, Nevanna, Shipley, Zearing and Amen with a parade of 75 Shetland ponies. Eastern Stars Observe Anniversary in Ames Mason Lodge

Members of the Order of the Eastern Star celebrated the twentieth charter anniversary at the Mason lodge in Ames. Laura Chapter held a supper and short music program with solos by Mrs Juianneh and readings by Miss Crawford and Miss Mildred Semmons. Mrs J Stevens, the first matron, attended, recalling the chapter’s May 1889 institution and September 10, 1892 charter grant, with initial officers listed including Rowena Stevens matron and Janisa Bosworth associate matron.
