A History of the Ames Church Formation
The Disciples of Christ organized as a church in Ames on April 20 1887 with ten members. Elder N A McConnell conducted early work in 1869 and Elder G L Brokaw led meetings in 1875 that revived activity in the Baptist church leading to further growth.

Church Building Details and Builders Highlighted
The church measures 40 by 62 feet with 16 foot posts and a full basement. Two 10 by 10 entrance rooms and two side lobbies flank the pulpit, with interior frescoes and hard pine finishes. Pews seat four hundred, or six hundred with chairs. architect C A Duntz designed it, and Duntz & Thompson built it, earning praise for the work.
