Des Moines Iowa September 3 The Chicago and North Western railroad announces a new passenger station at the west end of main street Ames will be ready for occupancy mid October replacing the old one story shed depot. The week’s hot dry weather aided corn ripening with more than half the crop now safe and likely to escape frost damage within ten to fifteen days if the weather remains favorable.

The month saw a high of 96 on the 20th and a low of 60 on the 12th with a 32 degree daily range on the 3rd and 10 degree range on the 22nd. The mean max reached 84 on the 20th and mean min 70 on the 26th. monthly range 36 and mean temperature 77. Precipitation totaled 6 inches over 10 days with 10 fair and cloudy, 4 fair and 7 clear days, thunder with rain. Winds came from the south and southeast.
The committee canvassed the town and secured funds for expenses as a prohibition special train will stop in Ames from the west. The first address is set for about 10 o’clock in the opera house or park, with speakers including Hon. Jnc. G. Woolley Hon. Henry B. Metcalf Oliver W. Stewart Volney B. Cushing Samuel Dickie Rev. E. L. Eaton Rev. S. E. Wilcox and Rev. A. Douglas.
Semon Brothers' Circus dazzled Tuesday crowds with Rajah the giant elephant, bareback riders, tumbling and trapeze acts, Roman hippodrome races, a boxing kangaroo named Tom, a spring-rope German dance, and aerial performances, hailed as the best circus ever seen in Redwood Falls.
Plans show a brick station with 400 foot open sheds and a 30,000 plus cost. Features include a large waiting room, offices, ladies room, lunch room, baggage and express rooms, steam heat, electric light, and a park planned north of the depot. Ames calls the project a proud addition to the Northwestern system in Iowa.

Miss Anna Johnson returns from Nebraska and Miss Myrtle Gossard begins teaching at Sunnyside this week. Will Miller marries Miss Emma Hannegan Monday evening. George and wife from Washington Iowa visit W P George for a week. Mrs. Dillon from north of Nevada visits Geo Person’s family over Sunday. J R Sherman of Ames and sister Mrs Inks of Mechanicsville visit L G Rosenfeld. Rev McDugal of Ankeny accepts call to Garden Prairie Kelley and Slater churches. Henry and Albin Persons with families visit brother George for two weeks.
