After a whistle on the light plant, fire swept the Lockwood Co. grain elevator in Ames Monday afternoon. By five o clock the elevator and freight depot were largely destroyed, with $70,000 in property losses. The Ames and college fire brigades fought the blaze, saving surrounding sheds and offices.
