Charles McGowen Killed by Interurban Engine

Charles McGowen, a brakeman for the interurban line, died after being crushed between the wheels of a freight engine on the track south of the coal sheds. He lived about forty minutes after the accident, with his widow and three young children left behind. The body was taken to Ottumwa for burial. McGowen had moved from Ottumwa six months earlier and previously worked for the C B & Q company.

Small Fire Breaks Out at Murray Home on Duff Avenue

A minor blaze at the Murray residence on Duff Avenue was extinguished after heat from a radiator set the surrounding floor afire. Fire crews were called Thursday evening and quickly controlled the flames.

Elmer Adams Suffers Bad Fall At Home

Elmer Adams of 1211 Burnett avenue fell from a step ladder while removing screens and broke an elbow and a hip near the lip joint. He was taken to Eleanor Moore hospital in Boone for eight weeks and is a barber at the O K shop. his wife recently gave birth.

The camp of foreign railroad laborers long located below the stock yards has been relocated down the south branch well below the junction. It is described as a good move and one to be pleased about.
