Landlord Wins Suit to Oust Mrs Stahlman from Murrie Hotel

Mrs. Jane Stahlman of Nevada refused to vacate the Murrie Hotel after it was rented to G W Kramer, former Arlington hotel landlord. Craddick, agent, sued for possession. Mayor Allen ordered eviction. Stahlman left, Kramer took immediate possession and opened to travelers. Kramer praised as a good landlord and predicts strong patronage in Ames.

Cigar Store Closed After Sheriff Action

The W. T. McMullen cigar store and ice cream parlor on Main Street shut its doors after Sheriff Ricketts of Nevada issued an order to the local constable. The business, once semi prosperous, carried debt likely exceeding its value and will likely be investigated for assets and liabilities with a receiver possible. Mr McMullen relocated from Pendleton and made costly changes, including a $1000 soda fountain purchase, contributing to the collapse. the Ames Savings Bank and Union National Bank are the heaviest creditors.

Vanderbilt Cup autos in Ames attract curious crowds

An express car stood in the Ames yards all day last Saturday carrying Barney Oldfield’s racing automobiles en route to the Vanderbilt Cup Theatrical Company. The car, painted in many hues, drew many passengers who tried to pry doors open but were barred. Four machines valued from ten to thirty thousand dollars each were said to be the identical cars that Barney used to win the Vanderbilt Cup.
