Lights Turn On In Ames Marking City Growth
Ames celebrated the electric lighting debut with arc street lamps and a new plant near the railroad. The $16,000 system, funded by a five percent bond, powers 15 2000 candle incandescent streets and 22 smaller lamps. The plant, run by Supt. Clifton and engineers Foster and Green, began with 600 lights and will expand. Mayor Smith and the city council receive praise for the project.
